Sol Invictus (Magic Origin Fire Blast / Dark Miasma Corrupter) and Pavor Nocturnis (Magic Origin Dark Melee / Fiery Aura Brute)

Marguerite Rodriquez and Ben Brown were two typical star-crossed teenage lovers, trying to make a life together, despite the disapproval of their friends and family. Of course, growing up in Paragon City, and with Marguerite's brother Julio being a leader among the Hellions, of the rank 'Damned,' and Benjamin being a 'Death's Head' of the rival Skulls gang, their romance seemed even more ill-fated than usual...

They managed to hide for almost a year, long enough that Marguerite gave birth to their twin sons in the time it took for Julio and Ben's former employers to simultaneously track them down. In the very definition of an 'unholy alliance' the two factions agreed, after some pointless bloodshed, to jointly sacrifice their wayward kin to the powers that they served, as an act of reaffirmation of their natural enmity. Both sides planned to betray the other, and at the conclusion of the ritual, the demon called up by the Damned to take his sister's sons to hell was caught up in a tentacle-filled portal to the Outer Dark. The building burned to the ground, leaving behind only inexplicably flash-frozen corpses of the gathered Hellions and Skulls. Of Ben and Marguerite, there was no sign, but in the exact center of the devastation lay a crater of fused glass, in which two infant boys lay completely unharmed, but harboring contrary forces of fire and night.

Only through occult means has the young ward of the state named Solomon learned that he was not an only child, and of his birth parents. Abandoning the last name given to him at the orphanage, he has taken the name Solomon Rodriguez-Brown, in memory of his lost parents (he has no knowledge of what first name they had chosen for him, as Marguerite bore her sons in hiding, and no official records of his birth exist). Solomon managed to conceal his powers, more by luck than anything else, and so had a relatively 'normal' upbringing, for a nameless ward of the state with no official record of birth found at the site of a supernatural disaster, that is... His twin was not so lucky, and Solomon managed to track down his location by unknown supernatural means, as if somehow able to sense their connection, whether by nature of being twins, or by a more occult connection between their mystical powers of shadow and flame. Solomon found his brother, who had been given the name Jacob, in an asylum under lock and key, having been heavily drugged and sedated for the last three years, due to his uncontrollable tendency to burst into flames when provoked. Solomon broke his brother out of the asylum, burning it to the ground in the process, and they lived on the streets a step ahead of the police and local heroes for several weeks, with Jacob slowly recovering from his drugged state and recognizing his twin only as the one person in his life who hadn't abandoned him and didn't seem scared of him. But their luck couldn't hold, and soon Sol and Jake were overwhelmed by local costumed heroes while trying to steal some food from a local corner store, and they ended up in the Zig after the battle ended up burning the store to the ground, further connecting them to the recent mysterious asylum inferno...

Jake is no less intelligent than Sol, potentially, but while Sol was being put through public school by the fosterage, Jake was chained to a fire-resistant bed and pumped full of enough Thorazine to sedate a small European nation. As a result, Jake finds himself increasingly frustrated that he must rely on his brother for even basic 'brainwork,' like math or translating words in Spanish, his mother's native tongue. He channels this frustration into what he does best, which is hit things that annoy him, a lot...
