Description

A clever Rus must often make every bolt of ammunition count and they often find themselves in a situation where a small deception could turn the tide of an encounter.  Using this enchantment from the cover of his wagon, the gnomish sorcerer Tikao convinced a raiding party of particularly gullible goblins that he traveled with the entirely of his ‘invisible college,’ and that his unseen companions would cut them down if they moved to attack him.

 

Spell Effect

By casting this spell as he goes through the motions of discharging a bow, crossbow or sling wildly into the selected area, the caster causes the entire area of effect, which can be either a cone to Close range, or a line, 5 ft. wide, out to Medium range, to be filled with conjured replicas of the original missile.  Each target in the area suffers an automatic hit from a weapon of the appropriate sort (1d4 for a sling bullet or hand crossbow bolt, 1d6 from a short bow arrow, 1d8 from a longbow arrow, light crossbow bolt or repeating crossbow bolt or 1d10 from a heavy crossbow bolt). In the case of a Cone attack, a creature of Large size suffers one attack per 5 ft. of Face, and must save against each seperately.  Each target in the area of effect is allowed a Reflex save to avoid being hit, but the bolts do not roll to hit, nor is the initial projectile part of the barrage (it is expended as the material component to fuel the creation of the barrage of similar projectiles).

 

Strength, specialization, sneak attack or magical enhancements do not apply to this barrage of duplicated projectiles as they are not physical missiles, but magical constructs assuming their form.  As no hit roll is required for them, they cannot score a critical shot.  Each projectile is treated as a magical attack for damage resistance purposes, not a weapon strike.

 

Only arrows, bolts and sling bullets are affected by this spell, and must be discharged from the appropriate weapon during the casting, a thrown missile weapon, such as a dagger, spear or shuriken, will not suffice as substitutes, nor will a hand-thrown arrow or stone.
