Leo grew up following his uncle around expeditions all over the globe, ostensibly archaeological, but increasingly humanitarian in nature. Building shelters for people, providing medical aid, even preserving the cultural and historical details of a people who had long since despaired of having anything to be proud of in their past, amidst the bleakness of their present situation, Leo followed his uncle around the globe, much to his parent’s consternation when they found out that they’d been ‘wasting their time on hopeless causes’ and ‘tilting at windmills.’ Leo stood up to his parents, who were far more interested in being wealthy and not feeling guilty about it, and was promptly disowned, which suited him fine, since he had effectively grown up raised by his adventurous uncle anyway.

It was in China that they found yet another reference to the ‘song.’ They’d found it in Iran, and in Ethiopia, and in the Yucatan. It seemed like every culture had a notion of words of creation, whether it be in the Word of God or the Norse runes or Hebrew Kabalistic practices.

Tracking an ancient riddle, scattered in fragments across the world, Leo’s uncle was lost to a Serpent Man sorcerer seeking the same riddle, and it was sheer chance that Leo got his hands on the artifact before the snake-man. Underwater, off the coast of Greece, hampered by scuba-gear while the serpent seemed to swim effortlessly about, like a shark through the water, Leo watched his uncle succumb to the creature’s venomous attack, and only the strange ‘Lyre of Apollo’ that they’d found at the last served to protect him from the creature, it’s low thrum sounding deep within his bones and making him feel like he was about to fly apart at the seams. And yet, while the strange sensation pulsed through him, his body was as hard as stone, and the serpent mans claws and fangs could not find purchase in his flesh. In desperation, he strummed the lyre again, and even under water, the sound carried, this time a shrill lance that boiled the water in front of it and tore a ragged hole in the Serpent Man! Shocked, the serpent man fled, and Leo rose, pulling his uncle to the surface only to find that it was too late, that the elder man had died already of his injuries.

Testing the lyre in the air, it seemed to have no further effects, but the strange vibrations continued within his body, and it was only through concentration and focus that he learned to manipulate the strange sonic vibrations that now infused his body. With a sharp blow from his hand, he could set up a destructive resonance within an item, and cause it to fly into splinters. Using meditative and yogic focus techniques, he could move the vibrations through his body and cause them to burst forth from his palms, to strike a distant target like a gunshot. In time, he learned to use the forces more gently, to slowly move an item, or even suspend it off of the ground, and then finally to do the same to himself, allowing him to fly through the skies. He learned to hear the ‘songs’ that all items sing, songs that reveal their weak points and show the places where they can be shored up and reinforced, allowing him to strengthen another by touch for a time, making them more resistant to harm, or even to heal and repair injuries! (A technique that he regrets not having learned in time to save his uncle, but as it took six months of actively trying to develop the skill to heal, he knows there is no chance he could have saved his uncle with this power.)

Leo still carries the Lyre of Apollo, although it has no effect on his powers. He is concerned that the Serpent Man who sought it might yet return, and find some way to gain similar powers over the ‘Words of Creation’ from the instrument. He has already learned that the words have many destructive applications, and he does not want them to fall into the hands of those who would use them towards violent ends.

Taking the name ‘Stargazer,’ from a childhood fascination with astrology (and to confuse potential foes into speculating that his powers may have something to do with the stars, light or prophecy), Leo has sold his uncles holdings and donated the lot to various charities that he and his uncle have worked for in the past. He has moved to Freedom City to pursue an education at Claremont Academy, after encountering Daedalus in Greece and being informed that it would be a good place to both further develop his gifts, and also find ready superhuman allies against any potential Serpent Man retaliatory action.

Leo is pretty darn close to being a pacifist, despite his easygoing physical nature and rugged build. He prefers to stick to destroying objects, shielding or healing others, or deafening foes, as well as seizing and restraining folk with his move object function. He can and will use his sonic Blast attack, but it will be only in defense of self or others, and never casually. He is studiously developing new techniques, and insists that he should be able to transform items, or even create objects out of thin air, if he can only ‘find the right tune.’ He has been assured that mind-affecting stunts, such as Emotion Control, Confuse or Mind Control, should be quite easy for him to develop as well, but he’s even *more* opposed to damaging or violating someone’s mind or feelings than Blasting their flesh, and has refused to even begin working towards these sorts of effects.

Despite having traveled over much of the world, Leo has spent very little time around people his own age, and is alternately attracted to his fellow students and envying their easy friendships, and yet also deeply troubled by what he sees as their superficiality. When some of his team-mates greatest concerns were what to wear to the dance (as he sees it, unaware that few if any of his classmates had it this good!), he was watching his uncle having to turn away mothers who had traveled two days to their aid station, babies strapped to their backs, because they'd run out of food and medical supplies and had nothing left to give them.
