Emil was the usual pteradactylan
teen, high-strung, puny, socially inept and a tad paranoid, but unlike most,
he was also a mechanical wizard, crouched over in his ‘secret laboratory’
(on the roof of a local building) tinkering up all sorts of gizmos and gadgets.
He’d managed to create several steam powered contraptions before dropping
out of high school to work full time in a machine shop.
It was his side-project, the ‘Iron Dragon’ suit, designed
to (over)compensate for his tiny frame, that turned
him into a hero. He had spent 10 years making the device, and it’s limbs moved with his own, as a form of super-exoskeleton,
while armored plates shielded him from harm. Thousands of tiny tubules, reflective
on the inside, went from the outer shell of the armor to his cramped work-space
inside, conveying to him the sights and sounds outside the carapace as if
he was there! Sheer genius, but the nearly two-ton titan of ironmongery couldn’t
*fly,* and to a dactylan, that made it a useless
failure.
It took years more, and advanced courses in theoretical
physics, before he finally made his breakthrough. The Starforge,
a stable fusion reaction, like a miniature sun that one could hold in his
talon (were one immune to fire, anyway). Reworking his Iron Dragon armor,
he nestled the Starforge in it’s
innards, and now the great beast can take wing, with rockets of nuclear fire
thrusting it into the air (the great metal wings are really only to steer).
Furthermore, when he’s on the ground, he can redirect the limitless supply
of energy to channel blasts of fire from the ‘mouth’ of the great machine,
causing it to breathe fire like an actual dragon! Glorious!
He’s an accomplished hero these days, always fiddling
and tinkering with his Iron Dragon armor, and maintaining the team’s airship,
the Talon (which he also crafted and owns). Note that his armor is *not* a
sealed system, and so provides no actual Immunities. Tubes convey air, sound,
and vision (and his voice) directly from his inner compartment to the outside
world, and vice-versa, making him as vulnerable as any other person to a dazzle
attack or a cloud of poison gas.
The Talon airship, the main source of transportation
for the Scales of Justice, can hit a top speed of 200 MPH, but is an open
air structure as well, providing no Immunities for it’s
passengers. Quite a bit of it’s 3 ton Carrying Capacity
is taken up by the Iron Dragon armor, as well, making it not the ideal solution.
Iron Dragon is currently working on a larger ship, sealed for underwater or
upper-atmosphere use, and with a few added features, like Remote Control and
Navigation systems. He tends to think big, however, and isn’t sure if he just
wants to ‘skip ahead’ and make a flying base!
Emil greatly respects and admires Doctor Scale, and while
he's not a big fan of the whole 'science and sorcery' thing, he's got to admit
that Doctor Scale's assistance on the whole Starforge
project turned out to be invaluable. At least, he *remembers* it being invaluable,
even if the specifics are a little hazy...
