Upon meeting him, most people assume that Aquiles is from the UAN, perhaps an explorer or researcher for the famous nomadic labs of Northern Africa, but after hearing the wiry black man speak, they realize that he is a Brasiliero through and through.

His parents both worked as marine biologists and he spent much of his childhood on the open sea or in the deep cities of Carribe.  Unlike most children he was fascinated with the world his parents showed him and he was one of the first students in the new Institute of Oceanic Studies in Pearl City majoring in oceanography and minoring in cetacean studies (which in retrospect he regrets since he now finds dolphins the least interesting of aquatic forms).  In school he also got involved with the Pearl City Doyo, but he later fell away from the religion, finding it somewhat too time-consuming when he would rather be in the water by himself surrounded by all the life and predictability of the sea than surrounded by people with all their nagging concerns.

As part of the Doyo faith a test for Latency was practically compulsory as Psions were seen as near avatars of the godhead, and he had entertained fantasies of being a Telepath and finally able to establish true communication with his finny friends, but to his shock, he was asked to accept membership in the elusive Norça!  Never one to dive into a situation, he researched what he could and found out about the power of Oxygen Absorbtion.  That one technique made up his mind and he signed up.  Sure, as a Norça he has responsiblities that he'd rather not, but he also has opportunities that he never would have had as a standard human trapped from his world of study by a bulky suit and special apparatus to sea and special apparatus to communicate and special apparatus to breathe and move and take the pressure...  As a Shifter, Aquiles has the power to transcend all of that and become a true creature of the sea.  He now travels around the Carribean on missions and patrols of the deeps, being a relatively common sight at the airlocks of the local cities, mining facilities, tourist centers and aquacultural stations.  He has hidey holes all around and under the Caribbean and is slowly gaining an awareness of the area more profound than any airbreather could, even a sub captain or deep miner.

His strangest encounter was a few miles from the Pearl City itself as he encountered a pod of dolphins leaping in the sunlight and found that not all of them were true dolpins.  One of them looked odd and was larger than the others, oddly colored and textured.  Upon reflection he realized that he was looking at an alien Qin appearing in a delphinid form, just larger, metallic and idealized, as they look in a humanoid form.  The alien did not (or could not?) communicate with him and he was a bit intimidated by the encounter, so he did not press the issue, but he wonders now what the Qin might be hiding since he was not aware of any sort of shapeshifting talent being amongst their roster.
