Growing up in Norway the only child of Erik Sr and Gerda
Solskaer, Erik Jr grew up with an intimate understanding of hopelessness. His father had been one of many young gung-ho
execs who invested in the stars and sank much of his money into the
Esperanza. With the fall his dreams for
the future fell as well. His father
turned to drink after losing his job, his mother retreated to regular prayer
meetings and church services and young Erik was left to his own devices as a
young teen. From 13 to 17, Erik was
secretly a member of a cult of Satanists, more out of rebellion against his
mothers bible-thumping born again desperation than any sort of 'dark
faith.' The violence and anger and betrayals
of cult life were only a few steps beyond the casual abuses and neglect of his
drunken father.
Erik was popular, experimentative and eager to learn,
amazingly jaded for one so young and remembering each harsh word, blow and act
of humiliation or degradation for the day when he would be strong enough to
return them in kind. He exercised and
studied hard (some would say fanatically) against that day...
Erik strongly felt that he had more 'vision' than the old
goat who led his coven/gang and after finding a few like minded and
impressionable youth he simply murdered the priest one night, dumping his body
into the Oslofjorden in pieces. Erik
had only been in the cult for four years by this point (being 17 at this point)
and knew that he was in no position to lead the cult yet. Fortunately he had
worked this out in advance with his lover, Astrid Tonder, who was in a good
position to take over. Unknown to Erik,
Astrid had been leading him by his balls and set up the entire affair, having
him set up to be killed next. The
murder was not as expertly done as she would have preferred and his body was
hauled out of the ocean by fishermen from Sandvika. Between the blood loss, hypothermia and beating, Erik would not
have lived had the fishermen not taken him to an Aesculapian Free Clinic in the
outer arcology that served the non-residents.
It was there that a Port-au-Prince Doc looked at him and muttered the
words that validated his whole existence, "You 'ave powah, boy." After she managed to save his life and
limbs, he smiled and signed his life away, unaware and not caring that his Latency
was not high and that he would later be traded away to the Legions by the Aesculapians
(who were frankly horrified by his psych test results!).
Now he appears as a clean-cut athletic young man
(fortunately most of the ritual scarring that occurred during his mistimed
murder attempt are hidden by his shirt and pants) with a spring in his step, a
smart salute, a no-nonsense attitude and a seductive self-confidence smoldering
in his eyes. He is quite open and
matter-of-fact about his beliefs (although he doesn't goose-step around the
place shouting, "Hail Satan!") even if some of his recent converts in
the barracks like to keep their new faith and practices secret...
Currently he has his ambitions set on making squad leader,
an ambition that seems well within his reach, providing yet more evidence to
his impressionable disciples of his 'masters' generosity.
