Memo:
Subject #413356
was referred to us by a Knowledge In Motion instructor touring the areas around
the incomplete Chicago arcology after he had noted the subjects excellent
Latency scores. She seemed an odd
choice, sullen and uncommunicative, showing signs of malnutrition and physical
abuse, giving only 'Rebecca' as her name.
Despite these behaviors, which trained counselors could not seem to
treat, she scored adequately on practically any test placed before her, having
the most difficulty with communicative skills, even to the point of losing her
voice on several occasions after speaking only briefly. Further medical examination indicated that
her vocal chords had partially atrophied, as if she had not spoken aloud for
some time, perhaps even for years!
Physically she was stunted and weak at first, but over the next year,
the child shot up several inches with proper nourishment (and removal of
intestinal parasites) and displayed excellent reflexes and endurance in tests
of physical capabilities.
No records of
anyone named 'Rebecca' matching to her description appear in local OpNets for
schooling, birth certification, vaccinations, medical treatments or even basic
citizenship. Over the next year, she
opened up to several of her instructors and classmates marginally, remaining a
highly private individual with no regard for the opinion of others. Her past is as unknown now as it was then,
but she has completed the equivalent of a post-secondary school education,
focusing on security as she seemed to have a 'knack' for getting into and out
of secure facilities, perhaps as a result of a (speculative) childhood of
looting abandoned arcology materiel and crossing and re-crossing 'secured' FSA
zones.
We do not feel
that 'Rebecca' will ever be suited for prolonged social interactions, her lack
of empathy and avoidance of emotional entanglements (or, in fact, strong
emotion of any sort) would arouse too much uneasiness in those around her,
although she is a natural actor, often trying to guilelessly act as was
expected of her during training, giving yet more clues to the nature of her
past. This combined with her physique
and marked skill with firearms makes her perfect for Ops though and we
recommend that her petition for immersion in the Prometheus Chamber be granted
at this time. Her request to change her
name to 'Jenny Bryce' seems only to represent a healthy enough wish to bury
whatever mysterious (and unpleasant) past lies behind her. As searches of FSA criminal banks turns up
no information on her, no difficulty (well, no more than usual) should be
expected from that quarter.
